Listeria monocytogenes Outbreak Investigation: Soft Cheese (June 2026)

Do not eat, sell, or serve recalled cheeses. FDA's investigation is ongoing.

According to the FDA, as of June 15, 2026, six requeson cheese samples and one environmental sample collected by the Maryland Department of Health tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes matching the outbreak strain. On June 24, 2026, a second environmental sample collected from Clover Hill Dairy, LLC by Maryland state partners also tested positive and matched the outbreak strain.

FDA has also been notified of additional recalls linked to this investigation. On June 26, 2026, La Ceiba Foods Latin Market Inc. issued a recall for requeson cheese repackaged as Requesón Salvadoreño (Ricotta Style Salvadorean Cheese) and Requesón Mexicano (Mexican Cottage Cheese), sold under the La Colonia and Selectos Latinos brands. These products were distributed to supermarkets, retail stores, and restaurants in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. between May 11 and June 1, 2026.
